The U.S. General Services Administration needed an effective, asynchronous training solution to equip agency mail center personnel with the skills to detect and respond to dangerous CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive) threats in the mail stream.

The Solution: An interactive simulation, incorporating storytelling and gamification principles, could present randomized, decision-branching scenarios in which learners must identify various CBRNE threats and apply the correct countermeasures to neutralize them. Built using Storyline 360, JavaScript, and AI avatars, Postal Quest is an engaging, asynchronous online simulation that improves government personnel's ability to quickly identify CBRNE threats and follow the appropriate protocols from the governing security guide. Players are taken through five randomized scenarios where they identify the threat and choose the right countermeasures.

Why this works: By implementing storytelling, question-based learning, and discovery learning methodology, Postal Quest not only engages players but increases learning retention and increases performance in real-world scenarios.
